Ancestor veneration plays an important role in all our lives. Spiritual veneration entails propitiating the spirits of the dead, known as egun, espíritus, or muertos. Practitioners believe that the dead can influence the living and must be treated with respect, awe, and kindness. The dead are regarded as having the ability to assist the living with whom they can communicate through dreams and intuitive messages. Through practice, a person can learn to both see and communicate with the dead. Practitioners will often leave offerings out to the spirits of the dead to placate and please them, often in the form of seven glasses of water ( Boveda/Ancestor Altar), candles, incense, and Prayer. For those of you who can not have an altar up at home, who don’t know how, or would like to start veneration we are now going to offer a monthly burn just for the ancestors and spiritual courts. Each candle can be dedicated to an individual who passed or our main spirit guide.
